I AM the Light of the World 1

When Jesus proclaimed, "I AM the Light of the World," it came out of the context of the Feast of Tabernacles. During that celebration, an impressive "light ceremony" took place when huge menorahs in Jerusalem were filled with oil and set on fire. Jesus had attended the Feast, and He used the symbolism of the light ceremony to apply to Himself.

Greg McCollam is an ordained American Baptist minister and the former pastor of Walnut Hills Baptist Church in Cincinnati. A West Virginia native, and a graduate of the University of Charleston (WV), he has been a guest preacher at many churches and has led Bible studies and chapel services at meetings, nursing homes and even a racetrack. He also worked in the marketing departments of both the Indiana Pacers and Cincinnati Reds. He and his wife, Jan, are the parents of three children (Erin, Kelly and Jordan) and the grandparents of two (Reese and Brayden).
